ABOUT DENVER DOES DENVER

Illiterate returns with the second annual Denver Does Denver, an event of mass creative promiscuity in which bands DO bands and artists DO artists. Hosted at two adjoining venues, The Meadowlark and The Flobots.org Community Space, Denver Does Denver will be a swinging time of artistic intercourse with over 20 musical acts and 20 visual artists interpreting the material of their predecessors and contemporaries within the city.

What began as an auditory exchange, with Denver’s musical acts covering the songs of other Denver musicians, this year expands into the visual realm. Illiterate asked Denver artists to join the cultural swap and take on the challenge of creating a work of art derived from the composition of another Denver artist. Their efforts will be on display as part of a silent auction taking place above the Meadowlark in a space transformed for a one night stand as a gallery.

Like any progressive form of exchange, boundaries must be constantly re-evaluated and expanded. In 2009, Illiterate asked how the many participating musicians would handle the challenge of covering the music of others. Would they honor their fellow performers, present and passed, with heartfelt renditions, or lampoon the competition with karaoke-like covers? What transpired was a sonic orgy with room for both sincerity and satire. This year, again Illiterate poses the question to both musicians and the visual newcomers to the party: “Just how far will you go?” All will be answered and on display Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Denver Does Denver, where original content and prudes will be left at the door.

For more information contact Illiterate at admin@illiteratemedia.com or telephono (303) 993-4474.

AJ Fosik uses wood, paint, and found materials to create three-dimensional animalistic beings. Fosik’s sculptures begin with individually cut and varnished pieces of wood that are then arranged into symmetrical and hypnotic patterns and become the faces of mythical entities. Hypnotic eyes pierce the viewer’s gaze and sharp teeth protrude from the mouths of Fosik’s creations that are embellished with a consistent rhythm of vibrant color and shape. Either constructed as freestanding forms or wall-mounted pieces, Fosik’s work references taxidermy practices and is evocative of American Folk Art. Similar to Bill McRight’s new body of work, Fosik’s alluring constructions are often inspired by subversive cultural influences that shift complacency and rely on the reappropriation of familiar symbols and images.

Artistic duos, slam poets and more at final-Friday celebration.

The final Friday of the month, the Denver Art Museum (DAM) feels less like a field trip and more like a night out with offbeat art encounters, unique detours of the DAM collection, artmaking, local music, cash bar, munchies and more. This month, Untitled #31 (Two), July 30 from 6 to 10 p.m., celebrates the Biennial of the Americas and other art related things that come in twos.

The DAM also hosts a satellite exhibition of The Nature of Things, the Biennial exhibition located in Civic Center Park. At Untitled, guests can check out cutting-edge video art in the Fuse Box gallery and talk to the Biennial curatorial duo, Luisa A. Orozco and Jürgen Ureña to hear how they teed up their selections for the project. Orozco’s My Body is a Weapon features 20 works by artists who use the body as signs, weapons and tools. Snapshots, curated by Ureña, features video art from several Central American artists who explore portraiture from different perspectives.

Cafe Nuba combines spoken word, live music and performance art. For the Biennial Edition, Cafe Nuba brings its pairs of poets to march in two-by-two representing the best of Denver and the Americas. Featured poets include Quetzal Guerrero, Zakiya Harris, Erwin Thomas and Jennifer Johns. Jams by DJ Cavem Moetavation and special guests keep the crowds moving to the words. Visitors can grab a partner and step one-two with the help of 23 Skidoo, Denver’s high-energy swing dance couple. The pair will perform and hold a mini Lindy Hop lesson. Breathe studio presents the Gutter Bunny bicycle-art project. Take in the virtual urban landscape on imaginary two wheels and find peace within the city surroundings. Joan and Charlie from Buntport Theater return to their puddle in the 3rd floor freight elevator and perform a new installment of Joan and Charlie Discuss Tonight’s Theme. Local DJ Johnny D spins in the atrium.

Please help me spread this message. Today, Denver is losing about 500 jobs.

In fact every day, Denver, you lose about 500 jobs.

But your creative sector is creating jobs. Every day, your music and art industries create good high-paying jobs deep within local communities. Together, your designers, artists, musicians, and creative talent make up for Colorado’s 5th largest business sector, in both revenues and jobs.

Why is your art so essential? Because your art and music industries are the largest sustainable exports in your city’s history. Because the global art and music industry is fantastically lucrative: 1% of the global art market share would double Denver’s economy overnight.

And yet you are cutting your creative education programs, Denver!

While art and music generate thousands of jobs, your government’s budget has forced schools to scale back, unavoidably attacking the Arts — English, Theater, Music, etc — in record numbers.

Right now, school is nearly in session. We need help. One in six children will be denied even a single art or music class. Help us enrich our neighborhoods and communities with sustainable, creative education programs.

Please donate $5 today and help Denver Art Society support our creative education programs.

This is an urgent affair. Schools need this money now. Sadly, the most artless schools are often the most in need of art’s benefits, art’s jobs, and art’s revenues.

Consider this. Your bands are performing across the globe. Your art is sold in every country. And yet you’re cutting creative education programs!

You’re losing jobs. Our creative sector sustained us through these last two years — creative education is the easy way to bring more jobs, more revenues for schools and parks, and more opportunities for our children for the next two years, and beyond.

We can reinvigorate creative education in Denver, starting today, but we need your support. You can help spread this message — and combat artlessness by raising awareness of the artless everywhere.

Please donate $5 or more today:

http://denverartsociety.org/donate.

Thank you for helping us get here.

Denver artist Tony Ortega has long been renowned for chronicling the richness of the Hispanic experience. He utilizes his signature style of bold coloration, simplified forms, anonymous figures and cultural icons to explore community life, family, urban and rural sectors, youth culture, popular culture and cultural politics. Paramount in his artistic intent is the discovery of the relationship between humans and their circumstances. In a country where demographics are rapidly changing, issues of multiculturalism and hybridity are tantamount. Much of this exhibition deals with those who have crossed and continue to cross the borders, to secure a better life, obtain work, and to ensure the welfare and safety of their families. To Ortega the border is porous, with layered implications.

Through monotypes, serigraphs, charcoal drawings and a mural installation we get a glimpse of the melding of histories, traditions, culture and politics of our ever expanding and diversified population. Additionally, Ortega will create murals in collaboration with students from “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Boulder County and The Family Learning Center. Following their display at BMoCA during the exhibition, the murals will be on view at the Boulder Public Library and Denver Public Library.

Sandra Phillips Gallery
July 9 – 31, 2010
Opening Reception: Friday July 9 from 6-8pm

Artist Patricia Tinajero from Ecuador will explore the nature of things thru video and experiential installation. Tinajero is interested in objects as the product of metamorphosis, in particular the recycing of object, the capacity of those objects to survive cycles of production and consumption, use and abuse. Exploring the regeneration process reconciled in the dialectical understanding of process of the artist, these discarded materials weave into sculptural forms which become installations.

The RedLine Exhibit “Artist’s Footprints” will also include artist Patricia Tinajero in partnership with the Biennial of the Americas 2010.

Solo Installation at Emmanuel Gallery
July 9 – September 3 2010
Artists Reception: Friday July 9 from 6:00-10:00pm

In “Personal Locator Beacon,” Vaughan will include 17th century cartouche designs colliding with industrial light components; decorative architectural medallions with pink electronic wire; crocheted white lace flowers, leading to twinkling LED lights and functional fans; the Golden Chalice Vine plant, whose scent creates amorous effects in humans, with infra-red electronic devices. As the viewer walks through the space, they trigger a ‘wave’ of fans and lights, and consequently a wave of neurotransmitters for LOVE and call signals to the outer world. “Personal Locator Beacon” alters the entire gallery, inside and out, to serve as a beacon for their love.

Summer hours for the gallery will be Tuesday – Friday 11-5 and Saturday from 12-4. For more information, please visit our website at emmanuelgallery.org or call. Emmanuel Gallery is honored to be an exhibit partner with the Biennial of the Americas.

Boxcar is, quite possibly, Denver’s rawest art gallery.

Their coop and curators continue to amaze with the integrity and from-the-streets genius artists their gallery has been come to be known for.

This week they present Wanderlust, June 24th to July 24th 2010. This exhibition features the work of Boxcar veteran Sarah Quinlan and newest member Ira Fail. The opening reception will be Thursday, June 24th from 6-9pm and First Friday July 24th from 6-10pm. Wanderlust will run through July 24th, 2010.

Mixed media artist Sarah Quinlan’s newest work Wanderlust is a visual documentary of female undergarments. In her work she uses a combination of found ephemeral materials, female outlines and watercolors to search for the “perfect support”.

Artist Ira Fail’s current work, Birds of a Feather, explores the relationship between the female portrait, birds, and the old cliché “birds of a feather, flock together”. In the work he blends the two themes seamlessly to illustrate the common, delicate beauty of both subjects. His use of vibrant color varies the subject, and through his style allows us to enjoy the fantasy element of the work.

Wanderlust opens Thursday, June 24th, 2010 from 6-9 pm and First Friday July 24th from 6pm to 10pm. Third Friday July 16th from 12-8pm. Normal gallery hours are Friday & Saturday from 12-5 pm, or by appointment by calling 303.725.7047

Boxcar never fails to impress. They’re South on Santa Fe Dr. so make them your first or last stop on the ArtWalk.

The EventGallery 910Arts introduces the concept of collective art creation in an exhibition entitled “Lucid Skies: The Eye’s the Limit” featuring mixed media works from By:Us Art Collective.
Founded by photographer and painter Clancy Philbrick, By:Us is an assembly of international artists working in a variety of media with the goal of shifting the focus away from the individual artist. “By:Us is unique in that it does not stress any one individual artist,” says Mr. Philbrick, “and also considers the role of the viewer as equal to that of the artist in defining, enjoying and even creating art.”

Works in the Lucid Skies exhibition are two-and three-dimensional pieces capturing the grandeur of the sky and portraying the power, grace and connection of the marvel above us to all that live beneath it. They were fabricated by five artists who collaborated with each other on their creation.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

Temperatures rise at Illiterate as Ravi Zupa engulfs the gallery with his searingly sharp representations of the past and present. Historical styles are collected and rearranged as the kindling for drawings, paintings and sculptures that blaze with the intensity of a modern man’s angst as he attempts to place his own contemporary struggles amongst turmoils in time.

The Pyre, an exhibit of new works by Zupa, is directly inspired by a collaborative book project by the same name between the artist and renowned hip hop musician, Tim Holland, better known as Sole, founder of the Anticon record label, and leader of Sole and the Skyrider band. The book, also titled “the Pyre” revolves around the incendiary, with an epic poem by Sole interwoven with accompanying illustrations by Zupa. Both radical minds ripped from the same flaming cloth, this is not the duo’s first mutual effort, with Sole previously calling upon Zupa to direct a number of his and other Anticon artists music videos. Though the work in this exhibit exists outside the narrative within “the Pyre” book, as Zupa puts it, “they are the direct result of the same fire and seek to convey the same skepticism, want, desperation, and optimism”. Enter the Pyre and look through the eyes of an artist fueled by a world he sees all around and behind him poised to be set in flame.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

A prominent figure within Denver’s art scene, Ravi Zupa has worked with organizations such as Denver Open Media, the Denver Library, and created murals, most notably, the human-like prairie animals in Watercourse Foods. In 2009 he received the Westword’s 2009 Mastermind Award, and though Zupa has shown in numerous locations through the city, this will be his first solo gallery exhibition.

A master of mimicry and illusion, Zupa creates illustrative and expressive works that play tricks on the eyes. Like a magician he uses misdirection to hide objects within plain site, rendering contemporary items seamlessly amidst historical iconography− an ancient Hindu goddess holds in her open palms… horse whips; a samurai charges fiercely into battle with his banner waving a banner for… the U.S. army, a plumed conquistador fingers… a machine gun; what looks like an anatomical drawing torn from the annals of a 19th century medical journal, upon closer inspection is in fact not wholly human at all. No simple gag artist, Zupa does not rely on digital gimmicks to wow the audience, rather he comes from the sleight of hand school; each piece is meticulously hand rendered and weathered by the artist, with subtle skill and technique eliciting moments of awe, as well as those of “aha”.

Inevitably, once the moment of revelation occurs− the trick revealed, the hidden picture found− the question arises, what does all this historical mashing up mean? Why is that Minotaur dressed in army fatigues, the Flemish peasant missing his eyes? By treating modern objects with the same level of detail as exalted symbols, and by altering those vestiges on high, Zupa asks us to evaluate our own modern American symbolism (whether you agree with his interpretation of it or not); what objects, if any, do we collectively imbue with mystical values, and how does this relate to a nostalgic longing, in which we are so dissatisfied with our own fractured culture that we crave the fetishism of the past?

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

“Ravi Zupa is Denver’s rare resident poet-painter, sculptor, film artist, activist & intellectual. Ravi self identifies as an anarchist, and these humanist ideas are at the center of all his work and DIY ethos. He is fully self taught and draws lessons from movements and artists who came before him. His works are as varied as his visual inspirations; the German Renaissance, Flemish primitives, Japanese Block art, Religious Iconography from Europe, Asia and pre-Columbian South America, & 20th century revolutionary propaganda. Ravi uses all these old myths, styles and imagery to tell the tale of modern “man” and his condition.

Ravi rejects academia and all pretensions and seeks to celebrate the “everybodyness” of art. With his work he aims to induce the same sense of frantic inspiration which inspires him when he sees a piece. He believes that art should be inclusive, and he puts this idea into practice. Ravi’s work goes beyond art, and he lives the epic battles of ideas found in his pieces in his every day life. It’s rare to find a visual artist with the mind of a poet, that draws from such a rich well of history & creates such a diverse body of work.”

                                                                                      ~Tim Holland (Sole)

Abend Gallery kicks off summer celebrating Jim Beckner in a One Man Show. Beckner’s art vibrates with the pulse of the city. His edgy and energetic paintings give one a sense of motion, and though his subject is gritty, the colors with which he achieves this feeling are far from muddy. Cityscapes are his chosen subject matter for this show; however it is not a theme he adheres to exclusively. He spends time painting landscapes, figures, and still life; yet urban scenes are perhaps some of his most recognizable canvases. Beckner plans out every canvas to completion in his mind before he lays in even one brushstroke, and has meticulously defined and refined these paintings over weeks and months to create an exhibit full of individual works of art that harmonize as one.

Resolution: Paintings by Patrick Loehr

Patrick Loehr, author/illustrator of the popular Mucumber McGee series of children’s books (HarperCollins Publishers) will exhibit a collection of new paintings designed to make you laugh and perhaps make you think about what they mean. “These works explore our compulsion to assign meaning to objects and situations,” says Loehr. “Even when no definitive meaning exists”.

The exhibition, opening June 18th at the Ice Cube Gallery in Denver, is called resolution. The name of the exhibit refers to the rudimentary aesthetic style used by Loehr to paint the figures and accompanying text, as well as the ambiguous nature of the circumstances being depicted. Loehr explains, “The lower the resolution or fidelity of an image, the more the viewer needs to participate in order to make sense out of the situation. These works are intended to encourage participation.”

Former IBM software engineer now a full-time Washington, D.C., artist, lost his left hand in a childhood accident. He is featured June 18 – July 9 at VSA Colorado/Access Gallery a nonprofit organization that offers education and opportunities for local children and adults with disabilities to learn through, participate in, and enjoy the arts.

Humor, tension, goggle eyes and shout-out color are putting self-taught artist Matt Sesow’s acrylic paintings in museums, galleries, collections and exhibits worldwide. Not really an “angry young (age 44) painter,” yet he could have been. At 8 years, Sesow’s left hand was severed by a landing airplane’s propellor in rural Nebraska. While some of his first paintings 15 years ago were inspired by his childhood trauma, now he credits the accident for putting him on the “fast track” to becoming an artist.

A part of the artist’s visit includes working with Denver youth in the gallery’s summer program in an effort to encourage area teens with physical impediments to create, benefit from and enjoy art.

Beginning June 18, Sesow unleashes his expressionist animals in his show, “Pet Projects.” Here comes a menagerie of loved animals in funny, chaotic, frazzled lines and unnatural propportions. VSA Colorado is featuring the artist in one of its twelve Access Gallery shows annually.

A self-described news junky, Sesow might focus on The Denver Post while he’s here, as he has on his hometown newspaper, The Washington Post. In his annual project, “31 Days in July,” since 2003 he has painted a 30-inch by 40-inch painting each day in July based on a page 1 Post article. He sold his first paintings 15 years ago at the Georgetown Flea Market, and was signed by an art dealer the same day. He earned a BS degree in computer/software engineering and never attended art school.

For more information on the artist and his work, visit Sesow.com.

VSA arts is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by the late U.S. Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith. Nearly 5 million people with disabilities participate in VSA arts programs each year through affiliate programs in each state and in more than 60 countries worldwide.

VSA arts of Colorado was established in 1978. Each year its small staff and volunteers serve nearly 10,000 people with disabilities, their families and those who work with them. It offers diverse educational opportunities for students of all ages with and without disabilities. VSA Colorado was the recipient of the 2009 Mayors Award for Excellence in the Arts. Call the gallery at 303 777.0797 or 303 777.0796 TTY for a session or with any questions.

The first career retrospective of legendary rock and roll performance painter, the late Denny Dent, leads the summer gallery exhibition series at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. Guest-curated by Keith “Scramble” Campbell, and in cooperation with Ali Christine Flores Dent, the artist’s widow, the exhibition honors Dent’s life and features more than 60 of his large, iconic portraits, which include images of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger, Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Travolta.

To coincide with the Denny Dent career retrospective and to complement the live music concert series at the outdoor amphitheater, the Arvada Center presents Convergence: Painting with Music, an exhibition featuring the works of 20 national and regional live performances painters, also guest-curated by Keith “Scramble” Campbell, a live performance artist himself, known for his routines at the Red Rocks Amphitheater and the Arvada Center. The Arvada Center is the summer hub for these painters, many of whom will be featured throughout the summer at metro Denver’s music venues.

Further building on the theme of music in art, the Arvada Center’s third summer exhibition is Amalie R. Rothschild, Live at the Fillmore East, a Photographic Memoir. Between 1968 and 1971, New York artist Rothschild was the unofficial house photographer when Fillmore East was the rock and jazz music capital of the East Coast. Many of her most memorable images are featured in the exhibition. The Arvada Center presents this exhibition in partnership with Denver’s Michele Mosko Fine Art Gallery.

All three exhibitions, free and open to the public, run from June 10 to August 29, 2010.

The summer gallery exhibitions, along with expanded Summer at the Center 2010 series, with live concerts and live theater, continues the Arvada Center’s goal to emerge as the premier summer destination for arts and culture along the Front Range.

Margaret Kasahara – Chibichan Cowgirl – Oil on Canvas

(from the press release)

Margaret Kasahara’s “Role Models” explores themes of identity and disparate cultures as an Asian American of Japanese descent, that identity crosses two disparate cultures. Combining memory and autobiographical experiences, she creates visual dialogs expressing everyday life. Appropriating cultural symbols and the traditional iconography of Japan and America, she places them in a personal and contemporary context. . “ I approach my subject matter seriously, yet with a wink and a light heart, and in the broader cultural landscape, there weren’t many Asian American women role models growing up. Depictions of Asians in film and television were mostly two-dimensional if and when they existed at all.”

Kasahara received a BFA degree from the Kansas City Art Institute. She has exhibited her artwork at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, MA, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Denver Art Museum, the Foothills Art Center in Golden , Colorado, the Gallery of Contemporary Art at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, and the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California.

Call For Artists: First Annual LoDo Alley Cat Arts Festival

Application Deadline: April 30, 2010

Artists can apply through http://www.Zapplication.org
Event dates: August 20 – 22, 2010

(from the press release)

LoDo Alley Cat Arts Festival Announces Call for Visual Artists, Culinary Exhibitors and Fashion Designers

Professional and emerging visual artists, Colorado culinary artists and Colorado fashion designers, are invited to apply to the first annual LoDo Alley Cat Arts Festival (LACAF), which will take place August 20 through 22, 2010.

More than 150 artists and exhibitors will be selected in the juried process, which will occur in May. Artists will be notified of acceptance May 10. The LoDo Alley Cat Arts Festival is a premier event, whose mission is to enrich and diversify arts and culture in the most popular neighborhood in Denver, the lower downtown district known as “LoDo.”

The annual festival will transform historic streets and alleys into “festival within a festival” pageant of art and culture exhibits. Renowned leaders of the Denver arts community will be selecting the visual, culinary, and fashion artists. LACAF is expected to attract more than 100,000 medium- to high-income consumers.

The leading live and print media outlets from the Denver metropolitan area will be promoting the festival. Fine Arts Alley component will be a juried show, selected by a seven-member jury. The festival will be balanced with a wide range of media, featuring local and national artists. Student artists will be invited to apply and they will be juried for participation within the show, with selected students receiving mentoring and a free tent to exhibit their works. LACAF will promote LoDo and Downtown Art galleries by partnering with them to produce special exhibits and events that will be held inside or around galleries prior to and during the festival.

Culinary Alley component will be a celebration of food, beverages, and cooking ware from a juried group of vendors. A Chef Demonstration stage will feature exciting, up-and-coming chefs from area restaurants. The festival site will include between four and six cafes providing distinct food and beverages. Fashion Alley component will be presented by “Fashion Denver”, an organization that promotes fashion designers from all over Colorado. A fashion show located within an alley surface street will headline the opening gala. Fashion designers will display their works along a row of booths called fashion alley.

The LoDo Alley Cat Arts Festival is sponsored by LoDo District, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit civic organization that supports Denver’s LoDo neighborhood through marketing, education, and advocacy.

Now showing at Second Degree of Separation at RedLine.

Second Degree of Separation features 30 regional artists in a signature RedLine exhibition. 15 Redline artists, board members, and exhibition committee members were each asked to start a chain reaction by selecting an artist to participate in the exhibition.
The Right Choice by Kimberly, age 14

Now showing at Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA)

March 12 – April 30, 2010

Opening Reception: Friday March 12th from 4-8pm

(from the press release)

The Right Choice is an exhibition developed by DAVA Youth based on the risks of using and abusing drugs, alcohol and tobacco. The exhibit opens to the public Friday March 12th and runs through April 30 th, with the opening reception on Friday March 12th from 4-8 pm. DAVA (Downtown Aurora Visual Arts) is located at 1405 Florence Street, one block south of Colfax in Original Aurora. Students throughout DAVA programs also developed artwork on healthy eating and exercising as part of a holistic approach to positive life choices.

Every year, youth ages 11 to 14 at DAVA research the most up to date information surrounding substance abuse through a grant from the Colorado Division of Behavioral Health. Through focused educational sessions, middle school youth from DAVA’s Job Training and Computer Arts programs learn about preventing drugs, alcohol and tobacco use. To expand their understanding of healthy choices, they also research mental health, self confidence, nutrition, and exercise. Artist-teacher Sarah Heid comments, “We also shared positive characteristics to look for in friends and in ourselves. We were able to discuss each student’s best attributes and focused on being our best selves in everything we do.”

This year, youth introduced their ideas within the context of DAVA’s overarching themes for the year: health, education, environment and economy. The exhibit is designed to educate and inform the community through the ideas of young people. Youth at DAVA explore topics in a safe creative space, using the arts to explore topics that impact them directly. By bringing their own perspectives to difficult community issues, they offer solutions in their own creative language.

DAVA’s Junior Staff, ages 15-17 created individual projects about alcohol and drug abuse through mixed media projects. Younger kids in the Open Studio started the year with drawing and clay exercises on nutrition, talking about healthy and unhealthy food. Kids drew what was in their stomach and observed the food pyramid. They made food plates in clay focusing on balancing meals. They decided to focus on exercising as part of our healthy habits focus. Kids made clay people exercising, including running, walking, swimming, playing ball games, stretching. They then made a park as a group to display the people.

Parents/guardians and 3-7 year olds in Family Arts created “Shopping for health” by painting healthy foods on tote bags. Come visit the artwork created by children and youth so that you may experience the vision of young people as they examine important community issues.

The exhibits are free and open to the public from 10 am to 5pm, Monday to Friday or by appointment. For more information about the exhibits email gallery@davarts.org

Each workshop will run Sat-Sun, 10 to 2, with a working bag lunch. The workshops will show students how to create and arrange forms made from mixed media on Dura-Lar, similar to the forms used in my work, Paroxyc Amoebosis and Blood Nest (below). There will be lots of time for practice as well. Some experience with watermedia (watercolor, thinned acrylic washes, inks) may be helpful but is not necessary. All materials will be provided. Students will complete a small 2D or 3D piece in class and will be able to continue working in this media on their own. Workshops will be held at the E Gallery in the E Project theater. (The gallery and theater are located at 9797 West Colfax Ave in Lakewood, CO, next door to Disguises Costume Shop, in the lower level of the Colfax Kipling Center, the NE corner of Colfax Ave and Kipling St. Look for the sign that says “West Colfax Event Center”. There’s plenty of free parking right in front.) Register: http://www.theeproject.org/the-e-gallery/registration-forms/
